Rev. Chitheka
"You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had, though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death o the Cross." (2 Philippians 2:5-8)
Rev. Bossman Suzumile Chitheka comes from Kanjeza village, Traditional Authority Khongoni in Lilongwe District. He is the Minister-in charge of Dowa C.C.A.P. (The Church of Central Africa, Presbyterian). In his own words, Rev. Chitheka is married to "the most beautiful lady on the face of the earth, Grace Makiyi Naphiri." They have been married since September 7, 1983. They have four children, three girls and a boy.
Rev. Chitheka started his education at Chilowa Primary School, after which he attended Chiwoko Primary School. He was admitted to the Dedza Government Secondary School in 1978. After completing his secondary school, Rev. Chitheka worked with the People's Trading Center from 1982 to 1984. It was during this time that he heard God calling him into the pastoral ministry. He joined the Nkhoma Theological College of the C.C.A.P in 1984, and graduated in 1988. Since then, Rev. Chitheka has served the Lord in different churches of C.C.A.P. He also served as the Evangelism and Literature Secretary at the Namoni Katengeza Lay Training Center, before serving as the Director of the Center for four years.
Besides being a Church Minister, Rev. Chitheka is also the Vice Chairman of the Malawi Council of Churches, Chairperson of Kongwe C.C.A.P. Presbytery, Chairperson of Nkhoma Synod Literature/Press and Kuunika Magazine, Board Chairperson of Dowa District Interfaith Aid Network, Vice Chairperson of Dowa District National Civic Education DAF, and a member of the Southern and Central Africa Faith Community Institute.
Rev. Chitheka holds a B.A degree in Biblical Studies from the African Bible College. Currently, he is working on his Masters degree in Practical Theology at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. The Reverend aspires to helping the church become more aware of the need to protect our environment: "I wish to help my Synod and the faith community get involved in environmental issues. The climate change crisis that has hit the earth has and will never spare the Church. If we love the future generation, the Church should help the world with the environmental issues.".
