Honey Burke
"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, 'My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'" (Psalm 91:1-2)
Honey Burke was blessed to have been raised in a home where the gospel was taught in words and actions. As a result, she grew up knowing God as a kind Father. Being exposed to the work of missionaries from a very young age, she also grew up with a desire to share the Good News with those who have never heard it.
In 1983, Honey went on a short-term mission to Jamaica, where she participated in street evangelism and worked with a local church. After moving to Southern California, she found opportunities to work in Mexico, helping with building projects and serving at orphanages. Honey taught in both private Christian and public schools at the elementary grade level. She was married to Brad Burke in 1989. When God blessed them with a family, she left her teaching career and began educating their children at home. She has a passion to see thoroughly Christian education grow, both in homes and in church-sponsored schools.
Honey met Fletcher Matandika in 2004 while he was studying at Westminster Seminary. She was drawn toward his trust and love for God as expressed in his work with orphans and his passion for missions. When Fletcher asked her to join the Joy to the World team, she joyfully accepted, and is very thankful for the opportunity to serve her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as secretary/treasurer.
